Forming a super group from individual members of iconic OPM bands of the 70s is a risky business. You never know what’s in store for you. There are hundreds of other equally talented bands out there, young and old alike, hungry for the attention of a sustained audience so they can also say to themselves: “We have arrived!”

But for the 70’s Superband, the risk was worth every step taken. Six years after forming the group, they are still here, stronger than ever, with a captive audience safely tucked under their sleeves

For the members of the
70’s Superband, looking back at what they have achieved thus far was exhilarating and at the same time electrifying. Re-banding for the love of music and relive the memories of the years of performing in the 70’s is one thing; getting noticed and reaping success after success is altogether a different story and totally unexpected at that. You really have to have more than magical mystery touch to claim a place in the crowded entertainment stage. Call it luck. But more than that: call it real talent please.

The 70’s Superband is made up of Nonoy Tan on vocals and the band's leader, formerly of the famed Wadab; Rey Magtoto, Musical Director, also formerly of the famed Wadab; Snaffu Rigor on vocals, formerly of the celebrated Cinderella; Monet Gaskell on vocals, from the famous VST & Company; Jun Mallillin on keyboards, the founder member & former lead guitarist of the renowned rock group Abrakadabra; and brother Nitoy Mallillin on drums, also from Abrakadabra.

It is amazing to watch them perform on stage, with the energy, wit, musicality
and contagious spirit all working together to make you not only sing along
with an all too familiar repertoire, but to get up and dance with the beat.
Every performance is a total experience; every song a trip down the lane full
of memories of glorious past.

Of late, they have been conquering more audiences off our shores. In April
2014 they performed to sold-out crowds in 3 venues in the United Kingdom, a
testament to their staying power and wide reach among our countrymen hungry
for the sound of music all our own. It won’t be long and we’ll hear of more
performances on foreign soil to entertain more Filipinos, “bringing them home”
if only for a few hours of rhythm and unmistakably Filipino soul.

The 70’s Superband has become a phenomenon of sorts, wonderfully woven into
our consciousness six years after they were formed in 2009 by Nonoy Tan who
personally selected the members and originally planned to perform just for
enjoyment. But that was history. This is present day cut-throat competition in
the entertainment business and they are still up there, with the best of them.
If their sustained popularity is a salute to the golden era of the Manila
Sound of the 70’s, then all of the music of that era put together must have
been a defining cultural marvel. Let’s all relive the 70’s music. Let's all
celebrate the Manila Sound & OPM's greatest hits. Let us all salute THE 70’s
